New Music: Major Lazer - Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do
Diplo and Switch are everywhere, so it is of no surprise they they show up with some Jamaican military commando with a few new artificial limbs as the character to serve as the back story to this fun little number. It’s quite a treat, especially when two white guys from two continents take on a traditionally Jamaican dancehall sound… and do it well.
Vybz Kartel, Mr. Lexx, Turbulence and more give the album an authentic Jamaican feel, while fellow hipster scene ruler Santigold provides a vibrant performance on the opening “Hold The Line”. The rest of the album is a solid flow, taking a break in the middle before kicking it up a notch on “Pon de Floor” before wrapping up with “Jump Up”.
While it is January now and the album came out at the beginning of last summer, it is still fitting to serve as the soundtrack to the fun times outside you wish you were having.
