As much as year round good weather sometimes leaves me longing for a California lifestyle, the Decemberists come up with something to just rub in your face what you miss out on from time to time. On October 19, the group will take part in a special performance titled Here Come The Waves: The Hazards of Love Visualized. It’s a project that takes their latest album cycle to an impressive conclusion for a final American performance at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles. This event is a collaboration between the group and filmmakers Guilherme Marcondes, Julia Pott, Peter Sluszka and Santa Maria which finds the group playing in time with the accompanying animations. The event will also be a benefit for The Grammy Foundation’s Grammy In The Schools music education programs for high school students. For good measure they’ll be playing a second set of material from various points in their catalog as well.
