Check It: theSTART

We have thus far devoted this section to the newly buzzing, but let’s take a step back to look at the career artist that is grossly overlooked. And here lies theSTART. They’ve consistently released quality material, toured with the biggest names in the world, yet most still don’t know who the hell they are.

One can hope the tide will turn with their latest release, “Ciao, Baby”. It is laced with some of their most potent and accessible material to date, containing all the dance worthy electronic flair, with a newly added indie touch. Produced and mixed by Brian Virtue the new material continues to capture a band that is only in the midst of reaching it’s creative peak, combining Jamie Miller’s musical proficiency Aimee Echo’s flair for capturing a melody. It is a collection of ten tracks of songs that would leave you humming the chorus, and wondering how these people used to be in some of the most obnoxious punk bands around (Snot, Human Waste League).

Equally enticing is a powerful and punchy live show. While the cast of characters may often times change, and the sets often too short as they are the opening act, the years of experience in the LA underground and touring with the likes of Garbage, Warped Tour, No Doubt, Head Automatica, The Offspring, Weezer…. yeah you get the point. You have to admire a band that when their female singer is stranded in an airport far away, your male guitarist/keyboardist has the balls to try and sing through the songs. It may of not been pretty, but gets my vote none the less.

So far, while just hitting stores officially on June 5th, this album has been one of the most repeated on my iPod so far this year, and comes strongly recommended by…. me.
